Brad Lyttle is an old friend of mine from my Chicago Catholic Worker days. He has driven to MA to get his book, The Flaw in Deterrence, to universities in the area. The book is about the increasing probability of nuclear disaster as time goes on . Brad also shares stories, like about the peace walk he coordinated in 1963-64, Quebec-Washington-Guantanamo Walk for Peace and Freedom, and how when they were imprisoned in segregationist GA as an interracial walk, they resisted with a hunger strike that lasted 2 months.
Today is also bike commute day in Northampton. Brad and I have been riding around town on the bike trailer.
Hello,
First, the peace walk that Brad Lyttle coordinated in 1963-1964 was not “Montreal to Guantanamo.” It was called the Quebec-Washington-Guantanamo Walk for Peace and Freedom. That is Quebec city, in the Province of Quebec, Canada. I was living in Montreal at the time, working as a full-time peace activist, and was one of three Canadians who came down to support the walk in Albany Georgia, and were jailed there.
I am currently reading Brad’s book on the San Francisco to Moscow Walk for Peace. I would like to speak with him. I do have his phone number, but would like his email address if you have it and could give it to me.
I hope you correct your little write-up, and that I hear from you soon.
Peter
